SoCoDesign has an "Intel inside" approach to capacity building. No individual specifically wants the Intel chip, but they do want what it can offer in a larger package. SoCoDesign offers enhanced collaborative planning capacity, which is to say, SoCoDesign provides a processor for community planning activities. For this reason, SoCoDesign needs to assemble a proposal team around targets of opportunity where enhanced collaborative capacity will be critically important for project and program success.
SoCoDesign would like to be regionally recognized for its design leadership in the field of social entrepreneurship. Design has long been held tightly as an expert practice. While there have been many efforts to improve citizen participation in large scale design, most citizens intuitively recognize that if the design does not take shape in their presence then it takes shape without them. SoCoDesign develops and delivers collaborative plans in real time. This results in profoundly improved acceptance of the design by participants and enhances collaborative investment of resources made to implement the resulting action plan.
SoCoDesign also would like to be recognized for its expertise in stakeholder identification, recruitment and management. These types of activities can get costly for a project or program mangaer who reaches beyond the boundaries of her or his own organization. At the same time, as a design management resource, SoCo Design needs to work at arm's length with stakeholders to preserve its image of neutrality so that SoCoDesign will not compromise its effectiveness in multiparty design challenges. To do this, SoCoDesign seeks to provide consultative support for stakeholder management. In this context, it is critically important that SoCoDesign convey the understanding that the design process starts BEFORE the stakeholder engagement process. Only the combination of appropriate stakeholder engagement and appropriate collaborative design can assure a robust collaborative product.
